Our Thailand elephant volunteer project takes place in a sanctuary in the Chiang Mai province of Thailand.  The sanctuary, established in 2011, works with older elephants and provides an alternative for owners to retire their elephants in a safe home.

The project is located in the District of Mae Chaem, near Chiang Mai. It is a place famed for its misty mountains and colourful cultures. The elephant sanctuary is nestled in a valley in Mae Tan, Thung Yaw Maechaem. It has breathtaking views of Doi Inthanon – the highest mountain in Thailand.

Free Time

Aside from working with elephants, there are many exciting activities in and around the area. As an elephant volunteer, you can visit magnificent Thai temples and explore incredible natural waterfalls and caves. You can also spend time in the local community or relax alongside volunteers from around the world. All while enjoying tasty Thai food prepared by our local staff.
