Caribbean Reef Diving | Volunteer in Carriacou | Working Abroad

Project Dates

Volunteers can join for a minimum of 1 week right through to the end of September. Every 4 weeks we run our ‘Training Week’ again, and then start another 3 weeks of project work – although we are very flexible with this and can adapt to each person.

Volunteers will need to participate in our foundational ‘Training Week’ unless they already hold an Advanced level scuba diving certification and have logged at least 15 dives too.

Volunteers participating should look to arrive in Carriacou on the start date of the programme they’re booked onto, and training will commence the following Monday morning.

In order to gain the most out of the experience, we strongly encourage stays of 4 weeks and longer.

We have something to suit everyone – whether you are a student, senior volunteer, professional taking a career break, or a family with children – anything is possible, we can tailor a programme to suit your needs!

From your first steps in diving and coral reef ecology, through to professional Divemaster training. Our professional programmes are complemented by advanced research protocols for those wishing to work in the field.

Project Costs

Caribbean Reef Buddy have tried to simplify pricing as much as possible. We’ve recognised that volunteers are either training or they’re participating on projects for each week. As a result our prices are:

  • £1025 per week for Training Week – Including accommodation and ALL of your required scuba diving training in this week
  • £615 per week for Project Weeks – Including accommodation, project specific training and all the equipment you’ll need.

diving the reefsWe’re able to build a package for you based on these two options which will maximise your time supporting our conservation projects and making sure we’re completely transparent about the costs. So an advanced level diver (with 15 logged dives or more) can join us for 1 week of project based work for only £615.

Researcher packages are flexible to suit your needs, with a typical package for a novice scuba diver costing as follows:

  • Research Buddy (2 weeks) – £1,640
  • Research Assistant (4 weeks) – £2,870
  • Research Divemaster (8 weeks) – £5,740.

Contact victoria.McNeil@workingabroad.com to discuss your requirements in more detail. Vicky along with the team at Caribbean Reef Buddy will work with you to ensure you get the most out of your trip, our aim is to ensure you have a unique and truly unforgettable experience.

All costs include hotel accommodation (based on shared double rooms) with breakfast and evening meals provided. All scuba diving training, equipment rental, course manuals and course fees, project t-shirts and wristbands are included.

Airfares, transfers to Carriacou, medical/travel insurance, lunches, and personal expenses, are not included. Air conditioning and laundry services are available in rooms at an additional cost, payable direct to the accommodation provider. It is compulsory for all volunteers take out travel/medical (including dive) insurance prior to joining the project.

Please note that for people joining for 1 month or more, we can also arrange self catering options. This makes the programme price significantly cheaper, as you are then responsible for all your meals. Please enquire if you want more details.  This is a good option for families, mature volunteers, and long term stays.

Payment Terms

To secure your placement on the project, you will need to complete and submit the application form with your application payment of £180 (included in the total project costs listed above). If for some reason your application is not accepted, we will reimburse this payment fully. For those accepted, full payment must be made 1 month prior to arrival. Once you have been accepted on the programme, we will send you a confirmation email including a short welcome pack full of information and facts to ensure you are fully prepared for your visit.
