Families need to book their own accommodation ideally in Argostoli.  Pick up and drop off for each activity is at the Argostoli De Bosset Bridge – so we would suggest searching for either a hotel, guest house or self catering flat option within 10-15 mins walking distance to the bridge (using the map facility).  You are of course welcome to book somewhere further away, in which case you can take a taxi or Uber to the pickup points or rent your own car.  We can advise on reasonable, local car rental agencies if so.  Families are also responsible for their own food – so self catering options are useful, so that you can prepare snacks/food to bring on the different shifts.

The programme runs from Thursday to Tuesday inclusive, so we would recommend flying in latest on the Wednesday before and leaving earliest the Wednesday after.  If you have to cut off one of the days, that is possible, but there will be no refund on the programme cost.  A lot of families do this experience as part of a holiday, so may extend the dates after too.

In and around Argostoli, beaches are accessible when you want to swim, sunbathe, and relax during your free time.  There are also swimming pools on foot in hotels that you can use in free time if you buy something to eat/drink.  Wi-Fi is available at local cafes and restaurants and the mobile phone connection is good enough in Argostoli to use for internet too.

There are many restaurants to choose from if you want to eat out,  where you can get a taste of Kefalonian cuisine and sample delicious local products.

Travel to Kefalonia

We recommend that families fly directly to Kefalonia or come via Athens. There are many airlines that fly from the UK and other European cities direct to Kefalonia. From Athens, you can get a bus to Kefalonia or you can fly with Aegean Airlines or Sky Express which takes about 1 hour.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our Sea Turtle Family Volunteer Programme in Kefalonia!
