Accommodation will be organised in Simons Town for your family and will include Wifi, mountain and sea views, housekeeping, with breakfast included.   Rooms are usually double or queen sized beds and there are restaurants/bars and shops within walking distance.

These images are examples of accommodation used on the project, however, the specific homes used for volunteer family accommodation varies.

You may be required on certain days to pack lunch for activities that are out and about for the whole day, but you will be informed of this ahead of time to give you time to prepare.

Travelling to South Africa

You should book your flights to Cape Town. Project staff can arrange to pick you and your family up and transfer you to your accommodation for about £20 one way.   The journey time is usually around 50 minutes.

A valid passport with at least 2 blank pages in it, is necessary to enter South Africa. Since visa requirements vary from country to country, please check with your local embassy as to whether a visa is required to enter South Africa. South African immigration also requires children under 18 travelling with their parents to provide certain documents, ie original birth certificate, affidavits (in the case of travelling with just one parent) etc.

Volunteer hikeFree Time

Being on the Cape Peninsula there are a whole host of activities right on your doorstep, also being just 40km from the City bowl of Cape Town there are numerous activities and tours to enjoy and explore.

Activities available include skydiving, scuba diving, wine tasting, horseback riding, climbing Table Mountain, sailing, kayaking, rock climbing, cage diving, blue and mako shark dives and so much more. Activities can be organised by the team if you need any assistance with this.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our Fur Seal and Marine Research Family Volunteer Programme in South Africa!
