Food, Lodging and Travel

Families stay on site at the elephant sanctuary, and depending on family sizes, we have 7 private rooms for 1-2 people, plus a 4-person dorm style room for families.  These lodgings include a mattress on the floor, a mosquito net and a fan.  You will also have access to a western toilet, electricity and a cold shower head.

All food and bottled water is provided.  Breakfast at the elephant sanctuary is simple: eggs, fruit, yogurt and bread (toaster provided).  Lunch and Dinner, however, give you a taste of a delicious variety of Thai Cuisines – along with a side of fresh fruit (in season).  Tea and coffee is also provided.  For the food lovers, families can help in the kitchen and learn to cook the Thai dishes served during mealtimes if you wish.

Family Requirements

All families joining should be reasonably physically fit (capable of walking several kilometres per day) as you will doing some long hikes into the forest looking for the elephants.  Also to be able to handle living in hot climate is important, and comfortable with basic conditions and being in close proximity to a range of different animals including lots of cats and dogs.  If you or any family members have any allergies, please take this into account before booking.

How to Get there

Families should fly to Chiang Mai airport (code CNX). From here you will be picked up by local staff and taken to the sanctuary.  Pick up is on Thursdays mornings, between 8-9 AM, and drop off is on Sunday afternoons 2-3pm.  We would recommend arriving on the Wednesday to Chiang Mai and staying overnight, so that we can pick you up from your hotel on Thursday morning. We can arrange pickup from any hotel in the main moat square of Chiang Mai (also known as the old city).  You can travel to Chiang Mai by bus, train or flight – https://12go.asia/en is an excellent resource for all domestic travel options.
